The Fojnica Field Trip: Exploring Cultural Wealth through Education and Integration

Recently, we had the honor of organizing a special field trip to Fojnica, a journey that was much more than a mere trip. It was an experience reflecting the core of our support: integration, education, and social cohesion.

Joining us were participants of our certified Bosnian language course, asylum seekers and individuals under international protection. A diverse group of forty-two, including families from Afghanistan, Iraq, Russia, Türkiye, and Ukraine, actively engaged in our comprehensive program.

We visited the cultural-historical landmarks of Fojnica, including the Franciscan monastery and Salihagić house. This was an opportunity for participants to acquaint themselves with the rich history and linguistic heritage, crucial for understanding the culture and customs of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

One of the participants shared her impressions: “In a sea of dreams, hopes, and desires for peace and security, feelings hidden in the depths of our souls, our hearts are joyful and satisfied, fresh like roses and flowers awakened by a completely different source, a temple full of meaning, colored by history. Thank you for organizing trips where we can witness such unique moments, still alive, still beautiful, and magical enough to be a lush source of our special feelings.”

“We thank everyone who was part of this unforgettable event, realized in collaboration with the UNHCR office in BiH, and to all who contributed to strengthening the bonds and understanding between cultures”, said Ms. Marijana Dinek, Executive Director of BHWI. “We continue our mission to support integration and social cohesion in our community through cultural and educational activities.”
